Our Story
Is there a need for the Career Girls® service?
Clearly, the answer is yes. Career Girls, a San Francisco-based, not-for-profit organization, passed the one million views milestone on its YouTube channel in August 2015.
The largest online collection of career advice videos featuring diverse and accomplished women is at CareerGirls.org. These videos are designed to inspire, educate, and empower girls.
Today, Career Girls® is a registered trademark with over 400 role models and 7,000 video clips.
Career Girls has collaborated with organizations including the Global Fund for Women, Young Women in Bio, and the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit, which has a permanent exhibition. Career Girls videos are now seen around the world on multiple platforms, including TES Resources in England and Share My Lesson in the U.S.
Our Background
Linda Calhoun, founder and executive producer of Career Girls, started the organization with this idea: Give young girls useful methods for attaining their professional dreams and goals.
Linda decided the best way to do this was to talk with women who had achieved their career ambitions, discuss the journey they took to become successful in their fields—and provide girls with the educational materials they need to follow those particular career paths.
Each year, the Career Girls team visits different cities to capture video interviews with women throughout the United States. The production tour has taken team members to cities including Houston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., St. Louis, Boston, New York, Detroit, Atlanta, San Diego, Los Angeles, and their home base of San Francisco. The resulting videos appear on CareerGirls.org.
Career Girls continues to grow with new role model videos added to the CareerGirls.org website every Monday and Thursday at noon, Pacific Time.
