2015 Highlights
Thanks for another wonderful year!
As 2015 I look book over 2015, one word comes to mind – wow!
It was an extraordinary year for Career Girls. We began the year with a fantastic video shoot at YouTube Space LA where we filmed 28 diverse role models from organizations such as the LA Sparks, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Blackish TV show, Google, and YouTube.
We kept rolling right along in March with an awe inspiring video shoot at YouTube’s headquarters in San Bruno. We also added two more members to our team of talented women.
In April, we returned to Atlanta to attend a reception hosted by Invest Atlanta to honor our 2014 Atlanta role models and to debut their compilation video “Atlanta Gives Back: 29 Things Every Girl Should Know”. The Atlanta City Council also recognized these phenomenal role models with a Proclamation during a City Council Meeting in May.
In May, through our participation with the Alliance for Girls, we filmed sixth grade girls from a local school to create a couple of inspiring promotional videos: “Advice to My 30 Year Old Self” and “Wisdom 6 Pak: Girls Rule”. We left super impressed by these girls. They blew us away with their poise, intelligence, compassion and insight. If these girls are going to be in charge one day, then our future has never looked brighter!
We exhibited at our first major conference in June at the American School Counselor Association and got a great response from the attendees! We got very positive feedback about the value of our content in schools to help children explore careers.
July brought two more video shoots! This time, we were close to home with a return visit to YouTube’s headquarters in San Bruno. We continued the next day at the San Francisco Chronicle who was kind enough to host us as we filmed an additional 20 women whose video you will see in 2016. So keep checking back every Monday and Thursday at noon to see a new featured role model.
In August, we surpassed the one million video view milestone on our YouTube channel!!!! While we were extremely gratified to cross that threshold, we are by no means done. In 2016, we plan to conduct more video shoots and launch our enhanced Careergirls.org website 2.0. The new site will make it easier for users to search for role models based what subject areas interest them to discover relevant role models.
To keep up with all the latest, be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel, Like us on Facebook and Follow us on Instagram and Vine.
And last, but never least, THANK YOU for your support and being an ally in our cause of empowering girls.
Merry Everything and Happy Always,
Linda
