Get Involved

Get Involved!

About 24% of Americans are under 18, so it’s important that teens become active members of their communities and show other young people that they can make a difference, if they try. As teens, some might feel their voices are not being heard or lack the self-confidence to start something new because they think they are too young. We need to help change that mindset and encourage everyone to be involved.

You can become an activist at a young age. If you see a problem or any situation you’d like to change, think of fun solutions that will get others excited, too. Start small. Making little changes in a community can have a major impact for generations to come. It could be something as simple as creating a community garden that brings people of all ages together to promote healthier lifestyles. Make it fun. Gather your friends who are in a band and put on a charity concert where the proceeds go to support a cause.

Schools and local cultural centers are great places to jump-start your idea. Start a program or club at school, like an anti-bullying club or an environmental club; a place for everyone to gather and promote change in a fun and safe space. When I was in high school, I was a part of the Interact club where we interacted with the community by starting food drives, fundraisers, and even putting on a senior citizen prom in the school’s gym. These things may sound like simple acts of charity, but the lessons you learn from helping others will carry on with you throughout life.

You do have a voice and your opinions matter. Stand up and start the change!
