Teacher Appreciation Week

As we come to the end of Teacher Appreciation Week, it’s a good time to reflect on what teachers do every day. With today’s new standardized testing, teachers are feeling just as much pressure as students. They not only have to make sure children do well academically, but they also have to instill life skills that go beyond any written test.

Educators do more than just spend time in the classroom with students, often coming in early and staying late to provide extra help. They give students 100% of themselves to show that they care, because they do. If we look at the stats, educators are not paid as much as we think. Many have to take up second jobs or full-time summer jobs such as working at summer camps just to make it through the year. You probably don’t hear much about these sacrifices, because to them it’s all part of doing what they love.

Teachers are talented and intelligent enough to have any job they want. But, they choose to inspire and educate our youth, because they know the impact it will have on our future. We shouldn’t limit our appreciation for their dedication to just one week out of the year. We should thank them every day, and offer to buy them supplies for the classroom or volunteer our services to help them out wherever we can. Being appreciated is one thing that can make a tough job easier.
