Take a Hike

When was the last time you went out with a group of friends and did something that you were all able to enjoy together? Now that school is coming to an end you will have plenty of free time. Most teens will want to sit around the house using their phones and surfing the Internet. I recommend taking a long hike the next time you look outside and see the beautiful sun shining in your face.

Today’s generation enjoys netflixing (which is totally a verb now), texting, and scrolling social media. They are more interested in what others do, than realizing that they do absolutely nothing all day. Rather than enjoying the world and taking in all of its wonders, they spend most of their time watching Snapchat stories to see what other people are doing. Wouldn’t you rather be the Snapchat story that other people are “oohing” and “ahhing,” about?

One of my favorite ways to spend the day is grabbing a friend that I haven’t seen in a while or a group of friends and take them to some of my favorite hiking spots. You can either plan a hike to look at a scenic lookout spot, cliff-jumping site, or just wander until you find a spot you like. The best thing is that you do not need to have too much planned, because the hikers before you have already established easy to follow trails. Hiking is an adventurous activity that has been lost on today’s generation. You would be surprised how many people have never even gone cliff jumping or their idea of hiking is strolling in a park. The best part is that you can spend all day hiking, or just an hour or two, which is totally up to you and the group that you bring along.

Another issue with today’s generation is that they are constantly looking for quick ways to lose weight, such as detoxes, gym memberships, and harmful pills, which are all extremely expensive. So, why spend hard-earned money to lose weight, when there are incredibly fun and entirely inexpensive activities to enjoy? Luckily, hikes are free, can be enjoyed by a group of friends together, and are an easy exercise to take part in.

Next time you and your friends are bored with staring at your phones while sitting in the same room with one another, just look up a hike and get outside. You will enjoy the exercise, the great conversation, and can burn calories while doing it!
