Harvest Moon 2016

Summer is almost over and what better way to bring in the fall season then to catch a glimpse of this year’s Super Harvest Moon! Tonight, Sept. 16th 2016, there will be a full penumbral lunar eclipse, giving the moon a nice orange glow, also resembling a giant pumpkin. A penumbral eclipse is when the moon passes through the very outer region of the earth's shadow. The term Harvest refers to the autumn equinox, which takes place on Sept. 22. The moon rises about a half hour later each night. This added light is said to give farmers more time to harvest their crops.

The best spots to see the eclipse will be in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia. If you happen to be in the U.S like me, you can watch the eclipse online through a variety of websites. However, you will be able to step outside and still see the large size of the moon as it passes through, that’s the super part of this super moon!

Here are a few places you can live stream the eclipse as well as additional resources to learn more about the moon:

This will be the last moon of its kind for eight years, so make sure to check it out. You won’t regret it!
