Epidemiologist

Watch Latoya Simmons, an epidemiologist with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in Atlanta, share how she describes her work as being a “disease detective”. In this case, she is not looking for actual criminals, but for pathogens that make people sick. She enjoys the challenge of finding the cause of a disease outbreak, and helping to put an end to it. Her advice to girls is to study math because it is a universal language that crosses language, cultural and professional boundaries and allows you to be a better communicator. She uses it everyday in her job.
